The other day, my 5-year-old son randomly said to me:
“Guns kill people.”
As I was caught by surprise, I turned to him, looked him in the eyes and said:
“Brian, guns do not kill people. People kill people. There are good people and there are not-so-good people. And you have to really look, observe and feel everyone who comes across your path because you can sometimes tell who is who. Throughout your life, do your very best to choose to stay with the people who you feel are the good ones. And remember the weapons are not the ones who have the legs and arms to get up and hurt people; it is the people who make the CHOICE to harm and hurt others. Some kids have good mommy and daddy’s to help guide them in the right direction of learning about such things and I am truly grateful I am able to share with you all the wisdom and knowledge I have gained over my lifetime that I hope you take with you on your journey to grow from….”
Anyhow, I thought I’d share this story because I am sure my son is not the only kid who thinks ‘GUNS kill people.’ Therefore, parents, guardians, caretakers, I am sharing this to hopefully raise awareness to help educate our youth on such a matter.
As a parent, I believe it is important for me to teach my child all about life; the ups, the downs, the good, the bad, the pretty and the ugly ….my son has a right to know TRUTH, as I believe we ALL do.
