The Odd One.

“The Odd One.” Watercolor on paper by Dianne Furphy.

I’ve been told my whole life that I am weird, strange, unique, different… you name it; I was always considered the “odd one.” I felt alone, estranged, and that I would never be able to fit in with anyone. And that was all I wanted, to be a part of a whole—I just wanted to be accepted by everyone else. Well at least I thought I did. I kept quiet and agreed to like what others liked. I became the typical “norm” because I did not know any better. But the more I learn about me, the more I accept myself and love myself, the more I am myself. I grow every day to be ‘me‘ wholeheartedly.

No matter how much I struggled as a clueless individual; I still felt deep down that I was special. So I kept on with my journey of exploring who I am…as I continue to do today and every day. It does not matter to me what others think of me, what matters to me is what I think of myself. My goals, my dreams, my desires are what keep my light shining oh so brightly and to me, that is what is important. I live by my rules: love, kindness, patience, happiness, peace, joy, gratitude, laughter, fun, honesty, and all of the positive that goes along with it. This I know is me living out my truth. So for me to be different, I have to agree because by me being different, it gives me character, it sets me apart from all those who are so much alike. I express myself and it feels so good to do what I love doing. I live through my heart of what is right and finally for once; I feel like I belong…I feel like I fit in. Now I strive to accomplish what makes me happy instead of striving to make others happy. By doing this, I am not only making myself happy but I am transforming into a world of complete happiness. Therefore, I take pride in my own opinion, thoughts and feelings and I worry less about what others think… because I have learned what others think may not serve my true purpose.

What wondrous things can happen when we tune in with our inner selves and live freely of creating the person we are!

Focus and Simplicity.

“That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.” -Steve Jobs
